Coffee isn’t coffee without water, right? The crew recently headed out to the scenic Williamsburg Reservoir to have a little chat with water expert Professor David Reckhow of the Department of Chemical Engineering at UMass. Prof. Reckhow told us about cafe owners’ increasing challenges in keeping their coffee delicious and their machines free of corrosion. You see, there is a growing amount of particulates in our water – throughout the world! – and these can wreak havoc on coffee-making machinery. This challenge isn’t just faced by cafe owners but by brewers as well, and people like Prof. Reckhow are working hard to keep our drinking water safe and our coffee even tastier. Overall, it was a very informative shoot (even though our crew nearly froze themselves).
